Remember the saga of the new bathroom?  Well, eventually it got finished - all bar the flooring, which we will sort out separately - but along the way were various delays and dramas. ;-)  Today I had a visit from the Bathroom Co. Overlords, just to inspect the job and make sure all was ok - and they also brought me a MASSIVE bouquet and two bottles of wine as an apology for all the shenanigans! ^_^

...We don't really drink much wine (it's more of a beer and spirits household, on the odd occasions when liquor is taken! >_<) but it was a nice gesture!  If we don't drink the wine we can always (a) re-gift 'em if we get invited somewhere; or (b) cook with 'em! ^_^

The flowers are really in-yer-face, not exactly my style (seasonal native flowers, or, if feelin' extravagant, pink roses, are more my vase o'blooms...), but they look v. dramatic in the bay window in the kitchen.  They were from an actual florist, rather than Tesco or a petrol station, and you could tell it was a carefully-prepared bouquet, with lots of flowers in bud (so there'll be something more to look forward to than immediate dead flowers!).  ...I don't know what they're called but I have a hard time not giggling at those weird meaty-lip-'n'-prong flowers (you can see one right at the front)... ;-P

Well, that was the surprise highlight of my day so far!  What was yours?!

Well... we sorta-kinda have a functioning bathroom!  After more than a month!!  Argh.  There have been various annoyances along the way:
  • Delay in obtaining the bath - they offered us a different one
  • Original one arrived after all, but... it turned out to be damaged
  • Not one, but two faulty dehumidifiers failing to... dehumidify!
  • Christmas and snow = more delays
  • Basin turned out to have a hairline fracture (d'oh!)
  • They forgot to order the end panel for the bath
In summary... argh! ;-)

Today I was finally able to use the shower!  Baths are all well and good, but less than ideal for washing long hair. :-\

It's still not completely finished, but I'm so bored of waiting for it to be 100% done that I thought I'd post a few pictures now, while the mood takes me.
Here is a BEFORE shot:

Cramped, mouldy and full of strange boxing-in (covering someone's adventures in DIY plumbing, by the looks of it)...  Plastic toilet cistern and nasty old wooden seat, ughh!!! o__O

...and here is a closer look at the wonderful, wonderful tiles we used to have:

Mmm, black with white specks, white with black specks, and ugly black/white/grey flowers... reminiscent of a sleazy 80s bachelor pad! >_<

And now, after a massive overhaul:

The ceiling is yet to be painted, the bath panel needs fitting and the floor needs covering with new vinyl, but otherwise it's looking good! ^_^

The old shower was really hard to turn on and off.  Now we have a sparkling new one!

The new tiles are so pretty! <3  The mosaic is a mixture of glass and stone, and has a sort of lilac tint. ^_^

Well, that's enough domestic drivel from Yrs Trly... thanks for reading! :-D

Right now, I am waiting... waiting for a carpenter.  And I don't mean Jesus.  (In other words, this is not a post about how many days are left until Christmas...)

No, I am waiting for a modern-day carpenter who is supposed to be working on the bathroom...

[*knock knock* Haha, just as I was typing the above, he arrived.  Now that he's ensconced in the old salle de bains, let me continue...]

...Shock treatment -
I'm doing fine!

So saith the Ramones. ;-)

However, this is perhaps a rather drastic solution to the problem of Happiness and How to Get It.  Unless your neurons have really and truly given up their normal function, the chances are something simpler may help. ;-P

Eavesdrop, snoop, and sigh with yearning…

This journal is not a private diary, it is more like an occasional, imaginary column. Therefore, much of it is on public display. However, if you want to read my occasional attempts at creative writing, my Caution Elf tells me I should only show that stuff to my friends. You know what to do. :-)

NB: If you add me in an unsolicited fashion, please introduce yourself. Otherwise I will probably ignore you.
